I've just finished watching all 5 seasons of Ally Mcbeal.

And really, I think this TV series is so much interesting with a mix of music and drama.

Love the bitching, the love plots, the backstabbing, the songs, the words and all.

The cast is great! And so is the story.

Really, missing out on local drama is all worth it. I mean, no way Mediacorp can beat America's creativity. Yawns...

And after 6 long days, the table tennis event finally came to a closing yesterday evening.

Wasn't surprised that China swept away all 4 gold medals in Mixed Team, Mixed Doubles and Singles Boys ands Girls.

While Singapore got a Bronze and the other medals were won by the Koreans (North and South) Chinese Taipei and Japan. These 6 countries were like the favorites in this event.

To sum up my experience in AYG, I think the whole Games were pretty well done already, given 8 months to put everything together. Definitely there's many lapses and improvements everywhere. But I can see everyone trying hard to constantly improve the Games so that athletes and volunteers alike can have a great event to take home with.

I took home with me 3 collar pins too! Japan's, Taipei's and India's NOC logo pins. So happy!!!

Okies. So after AYG, I hope I can make it for YOG next year. And I want to be Liaison Officer!!!

Oh well.

It seems like days like these ain't very good to live by.

It's nice to wake up to know that there's nothing much to do. But realizing that there's really nothing meaningful to do is terrible.

So these few days has been simply terrible. Other then doing standard stuffs like area cleaning and gymming. I've been doing nothing much, really. Haha...

If unless one consider awaiting his job application and interviews to be processed.

But thank god, there's this KL weekend trip with my buddies coming up like this weekend. So after that, will be AYG!!!

Yups. Life then will be more meaningful!!!

Well Singapore, expect the new opposition, the Singapore Green Front, to rock your sox!!!

hahaha, not surprisingly, after a whole day of politickering in Ngee Ann Poly, the parliament of the National Youth Assembly has became 2 strong factions. The government was instated and the opposition was forrmed.

Topics to be debated in the assembly includes these 6 topics: Food, Water, Biodiversity, Shelter, Waste and Energy.

Well, now I'm the opposition but I got many things to do...

First day of the orientation of this National Youth Assembly and I got to make many new friends already!!!

And gosh do I have to admit that I'm old hanging around them. Boys and Girls all of poly and JC ages. That is damn bad larh...

Worse of all, most are from RJC or HCI. I feel so stupid infront of them.

Oh well, but ad lots of fun today, had lots of speakers and much to learn.

I want to be a minister!!!!

It has been quite a long while since I last blogged from Taiwan. Will start back tracking soon yea! with edited photos and all.

Finally, Since graduation, had I have my first afternoon nap. It was something I missed so much since months ago when something like FYP and exams forbid me to do so. It was jus simply refreshing.

Okies, quick update for what happened today! It was horrible! Totally! Since the moment I woke up. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrs.

My Mac died on me. Literally. It just wouldn't want to start up. And it ate up my Sims3 DVD along with it. Tried online support, call centre. All failed. Decided to rush it to a Mac Hospital at wheelock after my appointment in town later.

And my town appointment was a verbal and numerical test conducted by NTUC Income. And 3 letters: OMG! It was like SAT all over again. Well, some simplied version. But still, TOUGH! 25 minutes for the verbal part, which was about testing our english reasoning skills on paper. Then 35 minutes for the numerical part, which was maths paper on intense mode. I barely finished the verbal part and couldn't finish the numerical part. READ COULDN'T...

My brain was like super not prepared for such things today. Totally on a lazy mode. And really, if I hadnot done well, that do not, I repeat, DO NOT reflect my normal hardworking brain capacity. Haha... (hope the head of HR is reading this... kekeke...)

Anyways, after depositing my Mac wfor repairs, I headed home, cooked maggi mee with ham, ate it, and napped. For a whole 3 hours. Am I really that sleep deprived!!!???

Anyway, my parents just got back from their Orchard spree. Brought somethings. I think they really missed Orchard damn a lot larhs...

Okies, there's a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong day tomorrow. Orientation for my National Youth Assembly thingy. Seriously, I think I'm a minister in the making.

My second official job interview was today!!!

That is if you don't consider the one by Marina Bay Sands in the early morning today as well. Cause I was there for the position of Dealer. Yes, Dealer. Like a Uni grad like me for a dealer job? I got my share of criticisms for it already.

Then my serious one was in the afternoon. At NTUC Income for their Graduate Trainee program. Damn fast right, last thursday then submit resume, monday called, and today interview already. Wow. Damn efficient.

So I was in Dhoby Ghaut early after my MBS interview in Merchant Court Hotel. Had a muffin and a frap in Starbucks before meeting Ricky at SMU for a light lunch jsut before the interview. Guess who I bummed into? Chun Ping! Yes. This fella should be in somewhere in Laos or Myammar touring but he came back for some urgent last minute job thingy. But he'll be flying to Bangkok tomorrow morning to resume his graduation trip. So we had lunch and chatted a bit before I walked over to office.

So yes, in NTUC Income building, the interview started shortly i arrived 30 minutes early. and ended 15 minutes past 1pm, which was my original slot. Overall, the interview was great! Much laughters, I did well in answering their questions, I think I left a pleasant impression to my 2 interviewers.

So after interview, I left for home, to find out I got a dinner appointment with my parents and their friends. Arghss...

So basically, That's my today. Busy, but fun!

And wait, did I mention I got called up for some tests tomorrow back in Income. yes, so seems like my first interview was okies! Glad to know... Haha...

The alarm went off at 8.30 am. We crawled out of bed to a early morning start.

Washed up and we had our first hotel breakfast. Then we headed out to 臺北車站 to meet up with Melvin and Sutanto. Our first destination today: 淡水. We took the Metro all the way up north until their last station, which stops conveniently inside our first town of call. Nice place I should say.

We walked through this street flanked by shops selling local products. We made mental notes on what to buy and decided to come back later to get them, as we got much to explore today. After some food, Melvin parted from us to run some errands while we walked a long stretch of the coastline, taking photos occasionally.

Upon long consideration, we hopped onto a bus to the famous fisherman's wharf located at the mouth of the river. The bus drove past much of the countryside and really, I think living here is not that bad an idea afterall. The tranquility and all. I like.

Reaching the Wharf, we toured the area, grabbed some snacks, took lots of photos and let the sun tan us a bit. The sun was up there, but we barely perspire. Nice weather right!

Once done, we took a bus back all the back to the Metro station, and transferred to another bus to bring us around the northern coast of Taiwan. We stopped shortly at baishawan (White Sands Bay) to stretch our legs, before carrying on the bus trip.

The scenery was great. Something totally different from Singapore yet similar to those of Japan's coast. I wanted to alight at some stops to check out some cool features, but the other 2 were reluctant. Furthermore, we kinda missed our stops even we wanted to. So ended up a bus sightseeing.

We stopped at Keelung, one of the eastern coastal towns of Taipei County. From there, we took a train headed straight back to Taipei. The train ride was an inter town one. Picking up mainly students.

Once back in Taipei main station, we walked around the adjacent Taipei metro shopping mall. It's kinda like our CitiLink Mall. But many times longer. Haha. Nothing much actually, predominantly toys and simple shops.

So dinnertime, 3 of us met up with Melvin again at xinmending and Melvin suggested this fried pork ribs for dinner. We had it, and it was simply damn nice!!! I ate a lot fo the pork ribs. and left my noodles untouched. Thereafter, we decided to have some ice shaving to cool us down. Taipei's food simply never fail to satisfy my taste buds.

After food, we carried on walking around the neighbouring areas and decided to call it a day. Tough day huh. But we got more planned tomorrow!

We were late!!!

Like for about 2 hours. Lolx. We woke up at 1130 am when we were supposed to meet Sutanto & Melvin at 1030am @ their hotel room. So we managed to catch up with them at 西門町. We had the famous 阿宗麵線, then we walked around the whole shopping area. We discovered there's this cinema alley where there's as many as 10 different cinemas around!!

We also happened to chance upon a charity sales by a radio station. Generous me bought a huge packet of 10 matchsticks at 100元 and took photos with those doing the promos. lolx... We also came across a group of hip-hoppers doing breakdancing in the open.

After 2 hours of wandering, we decided to spilt up and carry on our own touring. Ricky and I went to 中正紀念堂 but that area was having an event on mother's day and vesak day thingy. So we just took some photos of the buildings' exterior and left on to 市政府 area and explore.

Over at 市政府, there was this 新光三越 stretch of shopping alley selling classy stuffs. We merely browse through on our way to 臺北101. The shopping gallery is similar to that of KLCC: Boutiques of branded labels lining up every level. Something which we much expected. But instead, we went up the tower to 88-91 level observatory.

The view of 臺北 was amazing. The built up areas, the extensive road networks, the greenery, the mountains, the river, everything was nice viewed from the sky. Furthermore, we were there when the sun was setting. So we got to see the transformation from day to night. Not only that, we went to the open air observatory and felt the strong winds blowing and could literally feel the building swayed a bit.

After hours spent up there, we decided to descend to earth and we sought for dinner. Dinner was a simple affair and we headed back to hotel, going pass New York New York shopping centre, bough some Mister Donuts.

A tiring day indeed. But tomorrow will be more intense.

Ricky and I reached Changi early in the morning. 630 am to be exact. Checked in, had some hotdogs for breakfast, then boarded the flight en-route to Taipei Taoyuan International Airport with an hour transit through Hong Kong International Airport.

Departure from Singapore on board Cathay Pacific Airbus plane was rather smooth. The 3 hours 20 minutes flight was something fun in a way. Watched Milk, a banned movie about this openly gay politician being killed in US in the early 70s starring Sean Penn. Inflight meal was a thick omelette with bacon, fruits and muffin. My cough and cold was getting better thousands of feet above sea level, somehow.

Landed in Hong Kong with a very rough touch down. Then came the long march from arrival gate to departure gate. the hour allocated was initially planned with some breaks in some place. But turned out that it was just enough to cover one end of the huge airport to the other. Really, my 2 different gates are like poles apart.

The plane from Hong Kong to Taipei wasn't at all fantastic. The area I was sitting in was filled mainly with China Chinese of a senior age group. Basically, peace was something of a rare occasion. On another note, the plane was rather "fragile" in a way as when it takes off and lands, noise can be heard as though the plane is going to tear apart anytime. Damn scary. Not t mention the pilots super poor landing skills. Just imagine the wheels making contact only near the half of the runway. The stop was a disaster.

Anyway, after passing through immigration, Both of us took an hour's bus ride from the airport to Taipei city, passing through the countryside and zipping pass the busy expressways. We were dropped off somewhere near our hotel where we transferred to a cab to our hotel, Delight Hotel.

Hotel was superb! Nice bed, nice room, nice furnishings, and nice toilet! lolx. And we immediately explored our hotel's district in search of amenities and food outlets. Not bad I say, with many bakeries, cafes and nice restaurants around. Plus a metro station, 7-11, 24 hrs convenient store nearby too.

Sutanto and Melvin arrived 3 hours later as they took a later flight. Then after they checked into their hotel in 西門 area, we met up in 士林夜市 for our first itinerary of our trip. The whole area was bustling with life and activity. Many things were displayed there but nothing much stole our attention as much as the pets on sale. The food somehow became our purpose of that visit. We bought a lot of food to eat: 雞扒, taiwan sausages among all.

about 3 hours later, after a lot of walking, we decided to retire back to our separate hotels.

I haven been so much excited about any overseas trip before... yups. got up extra early and about to leave home for the airport.

We planned quite many places to cover in Taipei. And hope all is nice for us to explore!

Really... Going to Taiwan in like 36 hours?!?!?!

Yays!!!

Thank goodness... there's no H1N1 virus in Taipei currently... and hope it really stays that way.

And... I'm going to bring my macbook over. cause my hotel got Internet access, though not sure if its free. But I'll need it to upload my photos daily anyway. Haha... Kiasu... =p

So so so... I've already dug out my large suitcase I bought in Thailand the other time, and I barely put in a few clothes and my backpack (incase I need extra storage on the way back!)

Will be flying by Cathay Pacific, transit in Hong Kong for about an hour. I'm planning the trips rough itinerary with Sutanto tml. Haha... we'll going to spend our time wisely there!!!

Okies, time to rest!!!

On a personal take on yesterday's AWARE showdown.

Despite the uproar of jeers and boos and shoutings, I think that was already a very civil way of expressing our distrust, disgust and even hatred to Josie and Team.

Really, otherwise, if not for the very civil upbringing in this city state, I would have flung the plastic chair I was sitting on towards them or their supporters. Or someone would have dashed up on stage to give physical violence. Or there might even be clashes physically between camps.

At times, tension rose so high that you can see men and women standing up with fists and fingers in the air. I also noticed that men from the Josie's supporters stood ready with arms crossed for any counter attacks.

I remembered vividly, that Josie continuously asked for order, and one member took the mic and said that given such a situation and circumstances, this (rowdy and seeming unruly manner) is considered very civil already.

And members roared in agreement.

I was actively voicing my opinions from the floor through shouts and boos. But still managed to snap some shots here and there.

"SHUT UP AND SEAT DOWN!" Sally Ang shouted across the Hall packed full with women.

Roars of jeers immediately followed like a knee-jerk action. Many stood up with thumbs down. The men, seated in the associate members corner, pitched in to show how insulted everyone felt.

Swine flu obviously didn't keep any women, and a handful of men, wanting to be part of today's AWARE's EGM away. The queues can be seen snaking all the way up from level 3 to level 4's registration booths for the ladies. Queues for men were generally shorter.

The mood outside was rather relaxed. small talks about AWARE and its recent developments can be heard everywhere. But it wasn't until around pass 2.30pm did the meeting came into order. Josie Lau tried to give a "informative presentation" but was forced to quickly brisked through after many women protested on the attempt to market themselves (through their CVs) and the successes AWARE made, not during their charge as EXCO.

But that wasn't only after our NMP Mr Siew Kum Hong was repeatedly asked to seat away from the women's area by Josie Lau. A whole 15 minutes or so was wasted, until Josie Lau moved on as women jeered her decision as they insist his rights to be there. Mr Siew was also the old camp's appointed legal counsel, pro bono.

Once point 3 came into session, tensions and emotions rose, as expected. A vote of no confidence on Josie and Team was tabled. And the floor was open to "discussions". Speakers started talking, until mics were cut off and women were chanting "Turn on the Mic".

And when members of the floor were finally speaking, within the 3 minutes time frame, many spoke nothing but distrust, no confidence about Josie and Team. Some even asked about if proper representation from different religions and race was met in the new EXCO. Some gave inspiring speeches. Some talked in support of AWARE's sexual education courses. Some defended the old guards who were ill-spoken by Josie and Team.

Initially, Josie and Team fought a tough battle to gain control of the floor, but the women's (and men's) overwhelming responses in forms of claps, sometimes jeers, totally made the leaders helpless after a third into the meeting. Even the security they hired would not dare to do much, even when orders were given out under the authority of the president.

The legal counsel Josie and Team paid for was another joke. Many times Josie and Team tried to seek assurance and defence from the constitution. But the Legal Counsel spokesperson (I assume) gave interpretations which Josie and Team found unhelpful at all. So basically, they were quite on their own.

Oh, and how can we miss out our lovely "feminist mentor" Dr Thio Su Mien from such an already dramatic showdown. She tried, upon invitation from Josie, to give a speech, and the response was as unflattering as her image has already been. Really, I could hardly comprehend what she was trying to say, and her accent didn't really help much either.

And there was this man, proudly claiming to be from Church of our Saviour, said women are "emotional and irrational beings". I laughed my hearts out, literally, as women boo-ed and shouted him to get out.

Josie and Team's supporters did show up, apparently in no small numbers, to vote and cheer after their every comments and rebuttals. But the cheerleaders didn't seemed to stay for long, after the vote, and more so after sensing that the battle is a losing one to fight.

Teachers, lawyers, homemakers, founding members, women and men, straight and gay, all took their turns to take the mic to talk their hearts out, on how unhappy they were about Josie and Team. Everything about them was criticised. Their unglamourous coup. Their sacking spree. Their lock changing. Their husbands in the center. Their mentor. Their church affiliation. Even their English was in scrutiny.

What was most shocking, was that they spent more than $20,000 on this EGM, and $90,000 within the 1 and only month in office. Everyone was taken aback. When this piece of horrific news sank in, everyone was infuriated! Debate over this money issue took a portion of the meeting as well.

Sex education by AWARE was brought up. Many parents are supportive of it, even a Muslim father. As it promotes informed choices and is relevant in our current modern society. Trainers spoke up on facts. Even students spoke good about it.

The CEDAW issue raked up much commotion as well. Volunteers, former sub committee members took centre stage. Josie and Team tried to defend themselves but only to more negative responses from the floor.

Throughout the meeting, I observed that Josie and Team were simply trying to cover up their previous actions, or trying to seek constitution (or the legal counsel) as a bomb shelter, or simple play the "act dumb" card, like answering a question with a question, or simply answer with a totally non relevant one. And to proudly say they have the credentials to hold office? Everyone who were formerly unsure, were suddenly enlightened to see their true colours.

After votes were casted, it took Deloitte some 5 hours to tally the ballots. And during which, Josie and Team tried to carry on with "business" as stated on the agenda, but were promptly halted by the old guards since their (Josie and Team's) positions as EXCO were at stake in the vote of no confidence. Josie tried to run into the bomb shelter but was bounced out again. Common sense prevailed, and judgement day presumed.

It was as if Josie and Team were on trial for some criminal offences. "Witnesses" were routinely taking the stand and gave their accounts. And the jury gave their approval or disapproval in form of cheers or jeers. It was evident, halfway into the verdict, that the outcome was clear.

Revelation came after the results of the sacred vote was casted. 1412 against 761. It was a huge majority of 2:1 vote of no confidence on Josie and Team. Many old guards pleaded them to accept the judgement made by their members, and to resign in a dignified manner. Time was given to them to "consider" on this outcome. And they momentarily went missing in action.

A motion was passed to expel Josie and Team and a new EXCO was elected in with all members being experienced AWARE members. And it was then did Josie and Team return for a "gracefully resignation" and "best wishes for AWARE". Applause was given for Josie and Team's courage to have endured so much in a month.

As a wise man (or woman) said, "Good will always prevail."

I'm here right now in Suntec Hall 402 where the AWARE.. N gosh.... The catfight was really intense...

And throughout the meeting, one can differentiate those "pro new EXCO" and "pro old EXCO": those who stood and clapped and cheered when their respective camps spoke from the floor...

Vote of no confidence has already been voted. Tabulation is well underway... But those angry and having no faith or confidence continued airing their doubts, grivences etc...

And of course, how will our self proclaimed "feminist mentor" be left ou in action? She gave an incomprehensible speech. Some "Thiotians" followed suit... And a verbal catfight followed... Associate members, who are all seated exclusively to a back corner in the hall, predominately joined the old camp throughout...

Oh, and did I mentioned new EXCO member sally shouted "shut up and seat down" to her follow women???? And Josie tried to exercise her "presidency" to send out "unruly" members by security guards the new EXCO hired...

Amidst of my exams, I'm worrying for another reason.

My job interview results.

Even though I knew I pitched in my best, but I have this feeling in my stomach that I didn't do well enough for them to add me into their payroll list...

And the fact that it's taking them sooooooooooooooo long to get back to me doesn't helps in the process...

I just, really want to be employed by them... yet the feeling in my tummy tells me otherwise might be coming my way...

I'm prepared, for good as well as the bad...

Hi,

As still a customer, and once a very loyal fan of POSB/DBS, it was brought to my attention that the recent saga about Ms Josie's involvement in AWARE and her professional business in DBS has created much a stir in our Singaporean community.

I believe I wrote in before about the involvement of DBS with FOTF (Focus of the family) in last year's Christmas charity drive. Though disappointed and saddened, I still did not fully terminate my account in hope that it was a pure oversight on the management side.

However, in light of Ms Josie Lau's recent new position as AWARE's president and in-depth newspapers article on her background, I was shocked to relate that she had used her position as Vice President of DBS as a platform to materialise her personal agenda of promoting anti homosexual sentiments, as seen in the FOTF issue.

The fact that DBS/POSB allowed Ms Josie Lau, a vice president of DBS, to put her personal vested interest before her valued customers has proved that DBS, in collective as lead by a senior leader, does not prioritise their customers' interest before their own. This is far beyond unacceptable and inappropriate, not to mention unethical in a cosmopolitan society.

As a major bank in Singapore, and a large organisation, I found it very disturbing that there could have been lapses in the FOTF issue. Was it because it was Ms Josie's recommendation as a Vice President that had let DBS to put down its guard on doing a thorough check on a charity before committing? Or does this reflect the general working procedure in DBS? Or does DBS simply allows its senior management to pursue their personal agendas through DBS?

With this, I have now all the more reason to walk into the bank and to terminate my account, and also to strongly encourage my parents, family and friends to do so, despite the hassle and inconvenience.

I write this as a total lost of confidence in the bank and the brand, which has in recent months, vigorously market themselves as a local bank.

I don't know why, but today's paper made me had millions of butterflies all in my stomach!

It's like worse that wait for my HIV test results.

Anyway, it was s good paper, in a sense I could do at least 50% and the other 50% is like unknown to all what the answer is, as its super open ended in a way...

This is the first time I ever woke up so freaking early in my life in hall to study!!!

like its 5.30, and I'm up preparing for the last time for the paper later...

I'm super anxious can...

zzzzzzzzzzzz... and not to mention all the typo errors I keep on making... my mind and fingers are not coherent...

lolx...

And I think the first bus just arrviec,,, and there's people actually boarding it already!!! What are they doing!?!?!?!

I realised I've this weird thingy going on with me...

My blogging habits have an exponential growth rate during exam periods.

And it's like non-exam periods, the number of posts just dwindle and hardly exist...

But Exams come, posts rates published will just increase...

And I wonder is any other factors might have contributed to this phenomenon.

If any of you have not realised yet, that NTU exams just officially started today.

Yes, today.

So if you, a NTU undergrad still think mysteriously why lectures and tutorials ended, then it's time to realised you have to check your NTU-webmail for that Exam seating arrangement Email.

And for me... I finally forced myself to study full speed today back in school. With my first paper this coming Thursday morning, I really hope to finish studying what I need to.

Yups. Joel studying... Something I think many will be astonished to know. Even my closest ones are like "I must witness him study to believe it" attitude.

And that is just to the beginning of my final, yes, read that out loud people, FINAL exams in NTU.

And to think back, I would have had the studying fever a month back.

But just 10 days off, I'm still somehow, not that worried.

Maybe I just needed some time off before shifting into higher gears for the that final battle!

So before I shout Onward! Let me chill...

How will I miss such times when you studied so hard the night before, yet realised the critical 3 minutes of handing up your answer script became your lifesaver as you "perfect" your answers from sources of higher intellect.

April Fool's was like so school kids prank stuff.

Yet I still get 1, and only, prank from a coursemate from school.

But I wasn't that unaware of this day to fall too deep into that.
